Be an Appraiser

Appraisers are specially trained adult volunteers who evaluate team solutions of Destination ImagiNation tournaments.  For fairness, every team in a specific Team Challenge Level is evaluated by the same group of Appraisers.

No prior experience is necessary to become an Appraiser — the required training is free.  Relatives who are not Team Managers may be Appraisers, but they may neither evaluate their child's team, nor leave their post to go watch their child's performance.

If you see a story DESTINATION IMAGINATION TRAINING MATERIALS containing the Rules of the Road, etc. (under Appraiser Documents), you're registered as a Tournament Appraiser this season.  If you're not affiliated with a team but would still like to sign up at a tournament, please follow the instructions under the ACT menu tab above for Create a User Account and Register for a Tournament.  You'll be an Appraiser, not a Team Manager.  Leave the Team Number blank.

Appraiser Team Roles

An Appraisal Team consists of several different Appraisers, each with a different role, or job. Each of these roles has different characteristics that will probably make one more appealing to you than another. Challenge Masters and trainers will teach you everything you need to know to be successful in your role at regional training sessions. No ONE Appraiser determines a team’s standings or score: every aspect of a solution is evaluated by a minimum of two Appraisers.

Youth Appraisers

We value the experience that alumni of Destination ImagiNation bring to appraiser teams.  That is reflected in California Creativity's long-standing policy to allow appropriate exceptions to Destination ImagiNation's requirement that Appraisers be 18 or over and no longer in high school.

What changed last season is that we will no longer automatically accept youth appraisers for the team-supplied appraiser for state finals.
