Fearless Tigers, Discovery Charter School
Team Award, Elementary B: Instinct Messaging
This superbly engineered hummingbird was able to come to life through a complex set of pulleys and wires, which allowed the chest to expand and wings to flap. It was also colorfully constructed with real feathers and a realistic wing shape.
Woodson & Artson Co., Sam H. Lawson Middle School
Team Award, Middle E: A New Angle
The team came up with a unique design of an art form combining technical and artistic skills. The level of detail was unsurpassed. They had numerous props with fine details to show their unique talent. Their main challenge was well acted with sprinkles of humor in it, with well-polished lines and excellent presence.
Merging Void, Carmel Middle School
Team Award, Middle E: A New Angle
The team presented a very abstract idea ranging through time from Neanderthal man to Shakespear and DaVinci to present day to Obama, illustrating how all these elements (literature, art, science, music, and even basketball skills) merged to bring us where we are today. They made unique use of props, creating a life-size tape Neanderthal man that walked through time, and eventially met with Obama. They also created a central storybook which Shakespear used to narrate the theme. Illustrations within it also depicted the representations of the co-existence of civilization with nature. A river running through the middle symbolized the barrier between civilization and nature with a small bridge spanning the chasm. The abstract nature was by far the riskiest presentation we witnessed.
